Professor Basil Ammori

Professor Basil Ammori is a Lead Bariatric Surgeon in the UK and the Director of the Internationally Accredited Bariatric Centre of Excellence at the Spire Hospital, Manchester.

He has expertise in over 4000 laparoscopic (keyhole) weight loss surgical procedures including gastric bandgastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomyduodenal switch and gastric balloon as well as complex revision surgery and has successfully operated on people with body mass index as high as 87 kg/m2.

Professor Basil Ammori is a Consultant Bariatric Surgeon at Salford Royal Hospital (NHS), Consultant Hepatobiliary Surgeon at North Manchester General Hospital (NHS) and an Honorary Professor of Hepatobiliary & Bariatric Surgery at The University of Manchester. I have been involved in the care of patients having bariatric surgery since 2005. I have anaesthetised a large number of cases including gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy, gastric band and revision surgery. Largest BMI anaesthetised 84kg/m2.

I am also an examiner for the Royal College of Anaesthetists.

Jenny Taylor-DieticianJennie Taylor Bsc (hons) Dietetics and Nutrition, RD

Jennie was graduated 2000 from QMUC, Edinburgh with a BSc (Hons) in Dietetics and went on to work at University Hospital South Manchester in the specialist areas of lower GI surgery and critical care. Other areas of clinical expertise have included medical gastroenterology, Diabetes (type one and type two diabetes), gestational diabetes and DAPNE education. In 2007 Jennie went on to be acute team lead at UHSM where she was heavily involved with development of the dietetic service, clinical education and student training. Since 2003, Jennie has also worked in the field of bariatric surgery. This involved the establishment of a bariatric dietetic service working along side Professor Basil Ammori (Consultant Bariatric Surgery) in the North West of England. Jennie has been heavily involved in ensuring that individuals under going bariatric surgery are well informed and supported throughout their weight loss journey. Jennie is keen to pass on her experience to other healthcare professional and continues to be involved in teaching and presenting in the field of bariatric surgery. Jennie is currently the Specialist bariatric dietitian and dietetic lead at Spire Manchester Hospital.

Louise Coyle BSc, PG Dip, RD

Louise is a Clinical Specialist Dietitian. She qualified as a State Registered Dietitian in 2000 after gaining a BSc in Applied Consumer Science at Manchester Metropolitan University and a Post Graduate Diploma in Dietetics at Leeds Metropolitan University. Louise has 16 years of dietetic experience working initially in NHS hospitals and then developing her career further in the private sector.

Her expertise is in adult general medicine, upper and lower gastro-intestinal medicine and surgery. Louise is involved in the dietetic management and nutritional support for patients undergoing weight loss surgery.

As a leader in innovative care provision, Louise was part of a team that established active patient-led support groups, developed and implemented nutritional screening tools and provided hospital wide training on therapeutic diets.

Louise was also the co-founder of LA Dietitians Limited, which is a private dietetic service set up in 2011 with her business partner Alison Whitworth. Her company provides tailored dietary advice and treatment, and up to date nutritional information. It offers patients individual consultations and a range of packages of care with minimal waiting times.


Alison Whitworth BSc, PG Dip, RD

Alison is a clinical specialist dietitian with a high level of expertise in dietary advice following upper and lower gastrointestinal surgery including bariatric surgery. She has over 20 years of experience in the field of dietetics, spanning medicine, surgery, chronic disease management and palliative care and has specialised in gastrointestinal surgery for the last 10 years.

Following graduation from The University of Kent in 1992 with a BSc Hons in Biochemistry, she went on to study for a Post-Graduate Diploma in Dietetics at Leeds Metropolitan University, performing her clinical training at The Hammersmith Hospital, London and qualifying as a State Registered Dietitian in 1995.

Alison has worked in a range of NHS and private hospitals, including most notably, Queen Mary’s in London, Manchester Royal Infirmary and The Alexandra Hospital, Cheshire.

In 2011, Alison formed the successful company LA Dietitians Limited ( along with her business partner Louise Coyle. They provide specialist clinical dietetic services to the private sector and work alongside consultants to provide high quality, multidisciplinary care.
